– The Federal government will present sports equipment worth over N574 million to 2,000 primary schools – Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo will present the equipment’s at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Friday – The equipment’s will be used in football, athletics, volleyball, handball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, judo and taekwondo The federal government is set to present sports equipment worth over N574 million to 2,000 primary schools across the country. The equipment’s purchased by the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) will be presented on Friday, May 20 by Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.
Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Habu Gumel, the NLTF Executive Secretary, said the equipment are in nine sports, which include football, athletics, volleyball, handball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, judo and taekwondo. The equipment’s are expected to be used to enhance grassroots development in the country. On the schools choice, Hamzat said it was evenly distributed across the country. He pointed out that this specifically informed the decision of the Fund, as an intervention agency, to purchase the equipment and therefore enhance grassroots sports development. The NOC president said NLTF was in specific terms mandated to receive and credit into its accounts all monies payable to the fund. Gumel said the equipment, worth N574,019,838.64, will be officially unveiled and commissioned before they are presented to the schools at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, with many stakeholders in attendance. The equipment will be branded and designed for public primary schools
